An Unconditional Love: It’s Length, Width, Depth and Height

All of us, if asked, to some extent, could share a personal account on how it is to love, and how it is to be loved- may it be from our parents, our friends, our special someone, etc. But what we will dwell on in here is a kind of love that surpasses human knowledge- with it’s length, width, depth and height beyond our imagination.

A love that is patient…

A love that is kind…

A love that is not envious…

A love that is not boastful…

A love that is not proud…

A love that is not rude…

A love that is not self-seeking…

A love that is not easily angered…

A love that keeps no record of wrongs…

A love that does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth…

A love that protects…

A love that trusts…

A love that hopes…

A love that perseveres…

A love that never fails…

(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

Yes, my friend, you may have asked yourself, that kind of love REALLY DOES EXIST.

And that kind of love- that of the unfathomable, unconditional, perfect kind- emanates from no one but God.

He loves to express His love so much that He created man even though He didn’t need to. He is God after all, He doesn’t need us, yet by His love, He created us- even to the point of creating us in His very image (Genesis 1:26-27).

He loves us that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world, so that those who believe in Him will be saved and have eternal life (John 3:16).

He loves us that He came to us, yet we rejected Him (Psalm 118:22-23). He seek us out, yet we hid from Him (Genesis 3:8). Even though He did miraculous things to express His love and for us to believe, yet because we don’t understand those things, we deny Him.

He loves us so much that even though He is the Son of God- that He has power and authority over everything- He chose, mind you, HE CHOSE, to submit to the will of God, even to the point dying on the cross for us (Philippians 2:5-8).

Yes, “greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13).

He created us even though He doesn’t need to…

He sent us His Son and allowed Him to die on the cross even though we rejected and hurt Him…

He loves us not because we love Him, or we’ve done something to please Him. He loves us because He loves us (period). Unconditional, undeserved, unmerited – that is His love. He loved us first (1 John 4:19).

His love- it’s length, depth, width and height- even though we can’t fathom, we are very privileged to experience it.

I’m leaving you with a reminder from the words of a famous author: “if only we could keep the sweetness and freshness of our first love everyday, so our joy and happiness might be extended”.

The fight for our first love.
