My name is Berne Amia IV. I am a fictional character. But as far as my stories go, I am as real as you are.
My whole life was made up, regrettably by a guy who has gone through only 19 years of his. I guess you can say that the birth of me was not as fearful and wonderful as how you came into being… but as genuine as the purposes of your creation are, so are mine.
Just like you, Berne is an imperfect design. I experience bad hair days and I catch colds (In fact, the doctor says that I am 15% more vulnerable to it than the average person). I am a third year engineering student, and ironically, I suck at math. I am a guy and I suffer the same guy problems every male Christian has to face. I fall, sometimes in love, sometimes to sin. To an extent, I can say that I am human. For I share with the world the same limitations, the same vulnerabilities, the same fears, and the same doubts.
Thankfully, though, just like you, I too have a Saviour.
And thankfully, unlike me, He is not just a figment of one’s imagination!
He changes lives as real as His. He showers love, for He himself is love. He gives victory to those humble enough to acknowledge Him. His name is Jesus Christ, and I want to make Him famous.
What you are about to read is our wonderful love story. Somehow, I really wanted you to be part of it.
NEXT: Chapter 1.1
I got acquainted with this term when I was only a freshman in college. It was in my first Accounting subject, Basic Accounting, that this acronym was introduced to me. It stands for “Work-In-Process”, a name given to inventories (usually products) that have been started in production, but was not yet finished.
Back in those days, the term did not make any significant impact on me since it involves things that are far beyond the scope of my interest. I did not make any connection with it because I only thought of it as pointing out to production, sales, and other accounting terms that would alienate me at that time.
I came across this verse in the Bible:
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitudes of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
At the sight of God’s FAITHFULNESS, the only reaction you could come up with is WORSHIP.
The moment God showed up in my situation, wonder and amazement filled me. Why would a divine, marvelous, great God move His hands for an unfaithful daughter like me? Indeed His love surpasses human expectations. His love overthrows imperfections and uses them to reveal His perfect, good and pleasing will.
In a situation when I literally cried out to Him due to financial problems concerning my tuition and the difficulties I were facing in my academics ( I am a computer science student, about to conclude our thesis and I don’t have my own personal computer to start with), He gave me this promise:
Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. – Exodus 14:13-14
I first encountered the character of Joseph when I was 8.
I was sitting among a pool of children watching Joseph the Dreamer. I can recall myself being amazed by his moustache and how fast it grew during the film. It was only after 11 long years when I met him again, this time, it was such a Eureka moment that I had to write about it.
Most of you who are reading this probably know me personally. Some of you may even know that I am currently in Egypt. Well, not literally. Just as Joseph was, I was a victim of jealousy, hatred, and pride, but not of my brothers, but of myself. God has placed me here, in Egypt, where I am far from the comforts of a home, away from the affection of siblings, away from my heart’s desire.
Looking thoroughly at Joseph’s life, it will be almost impossible not to empathize with him. Read More…
